When I was in college, I was working on the soundtrack for Equus up in the catwalk above the stage, late into the evening.
A theatre major, I usually was stage manager for productions, but for this show I was the sound designer. Lots of weird music when the horses were on stage during this psychological drama. Weisiger Theatre, located in the Norton Center of the Arts, was built in the 1970's, and legend had it that when the building was being constructed, a man was killed in the elevator shaft.
Alone in the theatre, late in the night, concentrating on splicing reel-to-reel tape, I heard the door to the catwalk open. I looked up, and there was the silhouette of a person standing in the doorway. I called out to the figure, and received no answer. The figure was dark, but had a transparent quality to it. I could see the hallway outside the catwalk through it.
The door clicked shut, and the figure was gone.
Like it had just disappeared.
I went to the door and checked it - it was locked from the inside, someone would need a key to open the door. A security guard would have had a key, but they would have also answered the call from a student late at night.
I went out into the empty hall, and looked at the elevator. It was still at that floor. I hit the button, and it opened, no one inside. I went into the stairwell, and it was empty, only my voice echoing as I called, "Is anyone there?"
The more I thought about what I saw, I realized it was a ghost. There could be no other explanation.
I was more intrigued than scared. I've had other spooky experiences in my life, but this is the one that, for me, is my encounter with a ghost.
How about you - have you had a ghostly encounter?

yup, but you already know about mine...
:-D)
I posted about my ghostly encounter as well.
A bit of a specialist subject for me, this. The paranormal is my main area of writing, and I've been researching the subject for a quarter century.
k, that was freaky! I am sitting here by myself at 3am... and I don't like your story right now!!! Plus, I just wrote my own that isn't that scary, but writing it freaked me out. I'm glad you were more interested than frightened cuz if it had been me, I'd have been peein' my pants!!!
Good story, Mo!
What an intriguing encounter! Perhaps I should post a couple of mine when I worked casually in the old Palace Theatre in Sydney, NSW.
I posted about my latest ghostly experience, I have a number of them but this one is the latest. Honestly, the ghost theme made me a scaredy cat again hahaha! I can't walk to the toilet since last night hahahaha!
Wow! And you actually still stayed after that? I would have been out the door and gone for the rest of the night had it been me!
I've had encounters but I don't know if they're ghostly or not however I can tell you that to this day, I DO NOT sleep with a closet door open - anywhere!
Yup, I have, and it's my MM post for today!
Yes, I've had a few usually connected with someone very close to me dying and showing up for a final farewell. Today I stuck with the literary kind.
Up at Thorne's World. Going trick or treating now!
Very scary stuff!
I would probably have had trouble working for the rest of the night. I'd have been jumping at every sound, convinced something was behind me. Scary.
Never met a ghost, Mo! I'm going to see Equus on Broadway on Nov 5. Can't wait! :)
Thank you for the story Mo. I absolutely love ghost stories! I have had a couple of encounters with ghosts and I sometimes feel a cat rubbing against my ankles when none of mine are around. I know who it is though and she's not a ghost... she's just visiting from the Rainbow Bridge.
Hugs,
Lorianna
